FSS Bottle

Composition

Each 100 ml contains
Sodium Chloride. 0.09% w/v (0.9 gm)
Dextrose (anhydrous). 5% w/v (5 gm)
Water Q.S

Indications

Resuscitation from hypovolemic or septic shock.
Replacement of fluid and electrolyte losses due to diarrhea.
Correction and prevention of metabolic acidosis.
General fluid therapy for severe dehydration.
Support for animals during surgical procedures or hemorrhage.

Mechanism of Action

INTALYTE RL is an isotonic crystalloid solution that closely mimics the electrolyte composition of plasma. Its primary mechanism is volume expansion in the extracellular space to treat shock and dehydration. Crucially, the Sodium Lactate component is metabolized by the liver into bicarbonate. This bicarbonate acts as a physiological buffer, neutralizing excess acid and making Ringer's Lactate highly effective for the management and correction of underlying metabolic acidosis, common in severely ill animals.

Benefits

Physiologically balanced electrolyte profile.
Effective volume replacement to support blood pressure.
Lactate component corrects acidosis, improving patient prognosis.
Reduces morbidity associated with severe fluid and pH imbalances.
Suitable for large volume infusions over extended periods.

Usage & Recommendation

Dosage: Varies significantly based on clinical need; typically 10-40 ml/kg body weight for resuscitation.
Administration: Intravenously (I.V.) only, using sterile technique. Infusion rate must be monitored carefully, especially in cardiac patients.
Frequency: Determined by continuous monitoring of the patient's hydration, electrolytes, and acid-base status.
