Marbofloxacin is a bactericidal agent that targets the bacterial DNA replication process. It selectively inhibits two critical bacterial enzymes: DNA gyrase and Topoisomerase IV. DNA gyrase is necessary for unwinding and supercoiling the bacterial chromosome for replication, while Topoisomerase IV separates the newly copied DNA. By blocking these enzymes, the drug prevents DNA replication, transcription, and repair, leading to the rapid and irreversible death of the bacterial cell. This mechanism provides high efficacy against many Gram-negative and Gram-positive pathogens.
