FSS Bottle

Composition

Each 100 ml contains
Sodium Chloride. 0.09% w/v (0.9 gm)
Dextrose (anhydrous). 5% w/v (5 gm)
Water Q.S

Indications

Treatment of combined dehydration and energy deficit.
Management of animals with clinical or subclinical hypoglycemia (e.g., ketosis).
Volume resuscitation where caloric support is also required.
Maintenance fluid therapy in anorexic or weak patients.
Initial management of fluid and electrolyte losses.

Mechanism of Action

INTALYTE DNS acts as a versatile fluid by combining the benefits of Normal Saline and Dextrose. The Sodium Chloride component is isotonic, ensuring effective expansion of the extracellular fluid volume for treating dehydration and shock. The Dextrose provides of glucose, which is quickly metabolized for cellular energy. This dual mechanism corrects volume deficits while simultaneously preventing or reversing hypoglycemia and catabolism, which is crucial in severely ill or anorexic animals.

Benefits

Effectively addresses both fluid loss and low energy.
Provides essential sodium and chloride for plasma stability.
Dextrose supports critical organ function (brain, liver).
Suitable for long-term maintenance fluid administration.
Reduces the need for separate glucose and saline infusions.

Usage & Recommendation

Dosage: Highly variable; typically 10-30 ml/kg body weight, adjusted based on hydration and glucose status.
Administration: Intravenously (I.V.) only, using sterile technique. Administer at a rate appropriate for the animal's condition.
Frequency: Determined by ongoing clinical and metabolic monitoring.
