Dog & Cat
Tablet

Composition

CEFPET CLV 325 tablet
Each coated tablet contains:
Cefpodoxime. 200 mg
Clavulanic acid. 125 mg

Indications

Treatment of infections caused by Beta -lactamase-producing, resistant bacteria.
Management of complicated and recurrent skin and soft tissue infections (Pyoderma).
Therapy for chronic or refractory urinary tract infections (UTIs).
Empiric treatment of severe infections where bacterial resistance is suspected.
Upper & Lower respiratory tract infections

Mechanism of Action

The primary action of Cefpodoxime is to inhibit bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to PBPs (Penicillin-Binding Proteins), leading to cell lysis. However, some bacteria produce Beta -lactamase enzymes, which cleave Cefpodoxime, rendering it inactive. Clavulanic Acid is a suicide inhibitor that irreversibly binds to these Beta-lactamase enzymes. This protective action shields Cefpodoxime from degradation, thereby restoring and extending its bactericidal activity against many resistant strains, ensuring effective treatment of complicated infections.

Benefits

Potentiation significantly widens the spectrum of susceptible pathogens.
Effective against organisms previously resistant to Cefpodoxime monotherapy.
Clavulanic Acid overcomes the challenge of bacterial enzyme degradation.
High concentration provides simplified dosing for medium to large dogs.
Reliable oral option for treating severe, persistent bacterial infections.
