Dog & Cat
Tablet

Composition

CEFPET XL tablet
Each coated tablet contains: Cefpodoxime. 200 mg

Indications

Treatment of infections caused by Cefpodoxime-susceptible bacteria, primarily in larger dogs.
Management of severe or recurrent skin and soft tissue infections (wounds, pyoderma).
Therapy for complicated urinary tract infections (UTIs).
Treatment of respiratory tract infections, including tonsillitis and bronchitis

Mechanism of Action

Cefpodoxime is a bactericidal agent that targets the bacterial cell wall. Like other - Beta Lactam antibiotics, it works by binding to and inactivating Penicillin-Binding Proteins (PBPs), which are essential enzymes involved in the final cross-linking stage of peptidoglycan synthesis-the primary component of the bacterial cell wall. This inhibition prevents the formation of a stable, structurally sound cell wall, leading to osmotic instability, lysis, and ultimately, bacterial death. Cefpodoxime is generally resistant to many common Beta -lactamase enzymes.

Benefits

High dose (200 mg) simplifies treatment and reduces the pill burden for large dogs.
Third-generation activity ensures potent efficacy against resistant strains.
Twice-daily (BID) or sometimes once-daily (SID) dosing promotes owner compliance.
Broad efficacy covers key pathogens of $\text{UTI}$s, skin, and respiratory infections.
