Carprofen is a Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drug (NSAID) that exerts its primary effect by inhibiting the enzyme Cyclooxygenase (COX), particularly focusing on COX-2. This inhibition blocks the synthesis of prostaglandins, which are chemical compounds centrally involved in generating pain, inflammation, and fever. Unlike some traditional NSAIDs, Carprofen shows good relative selectivity for COX-2, the enzyme induced during inflammation. This mechanism helps to effectively alleviate discomfort and swelling while offering a better safety profile compared to non-selective inhibitors.
Rapidly controls pain and inflammation for improved animal welfare.
Effective anti-pyretic action reduces fever associated with infection.
Good safety margin due to its preferential COX-2 inhibition.
Enhances recovery when used alongside standard antibiotic treatment.
Single-dose administration often provides long-lasting relief.
